Textile Exchange Unveils Bold Five-Year Strategy to Drive Sustainable Fashion by 2030
July 2, 2025 – Textile Exchange, a global nonprofit championing sustainable fiber and material production, has launched an ambitious five-year strategy to accelerate systemic change in the fashion industry, targeting significant environmental impact by 2030. With the fashion sector still falling short of the Paris Agreement’s goal to cut greenhouse gas emissions from fiber and material production by 45%, the new strategy shifts focus from consensus-building to collective accountability and measurable outcomes.
Under CEO Claire Bergkamp’s leadership, the initiative zeros in on the supply chain’s foundation—raw material producers and Tier 4 farmers—urging brands to invest directly in these communities through equitable sourcing and financial support. The strategy is built on three pillars:Strengthened industry partnerships to foster collective action.Measurable climate and nature outcomes using enhanced data and science-based tools.
A transformed standards system with the “Materials Matter” framework, prioritizing real-world impact over compliance checklists.Textile Exchange emphasizes coordinated investment and shared responsibility to empower producers, promote resilient ecosystems, and adopt true cost accounting for materials like regenerative cotton and recycled synthetics. This approach aims to address the industry’s environmental footprint while navigating regulatory pressures and geopolitical challenges.“This strategy is a call to action for brands to move beyond commitments and drive tangible change,” said Bergkamp. With over 90,000 certified sites globally, Textile Exchange is doubling down on uniting stakeholders to meet critical climate goals by 2030.
