HOLLYWOOD – Disney's live-action remake of the beloved Lilo & Stitch has officially soared past the $1 billion mark in the worldwide box office, making it the first Hollywood film of 2025 to achieve this monumental feat after weeks of immense success.
“We knew there was a lot of love for Lilo & Stitch with audiences around the world, yet we never take that for granted, and we’re proud of how this new film has connected with people,” Disney Entertainment Co-Chairman Alan Bergman said in a statement following the announcement.
Lilo & Stitch has been breaking records since its May release, notably achieving the highest Memorial Day weekend debut in history with a staggering $183 million at the box office in just four days. Its financial triumph continued as it became one of only two movies to pass the $400 million mark at the domestic box office this year. Furthermore, the film has even become the highest-grossing Disney live-action movie of all time in Mexico, underscoring its broad international appeal.
Beyond its impressive financial performance, the live-action film's success has also reignited interest in the original animated version. The 2002 classic has now been streamed for more than 640 million hours on Disney+, demonstrating the enduring cultural impact and multi-generational appeal of the franchise.
The movie is the latest in Disney’s impressive lineup of recent billion-dollar films, including Moana 2, Inside Out 2, and Deadpool & Wolverine. A sequel is already in development, signaling Disney's confidence in the franchise's continued appeal and its place as a burgeoning box office powerhouse
