In an interview, actor Manish Wadhwa, who plays the villain in the upcoming film Gadar 2, revealed that Sunny Deol was initially worried about who would be able to fill the shoes of the late Amrish Puri, who played the iconic role of Mayor Ashraf Ali in the first film.
"Sunny paaji was quite worried about who would play the villain in the film," Wadhwa said. "He knew that Amrish Puri ji was a legend and that it would be difficult to find someone who could match his performance. But he was also confident that the right actor would come along."
Wadhwa said that he was initially hesitant to take on the role, but after meeting with Deol and director Anil Sharma, he was convinced that he was the right person for the job.
"I knew that it would be a challenge, but I was also excited about the opportunity," he said. "I wanted to do Amrish Puri ji proud and I wanted to give the fans a villain that they would remember."
Wadhwa said that he worked hard to develop his character and to bring him to life on screen. He also said that he was grateful for the support of Deol and Sharma, who helped him to create a performance that is both menacing and believable.
"I'm glad that Sunny paaji and Anil Sharma had faith in me," he said. "I hope that I've done them proud and that the fans will enjoy my performance."
Gadar 2 is set to release in theaters on August 20, 2023. The film is a sequel to the 2001 blockbuster Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, which starred Deol and Ameesha Patel.
